Some Universal Tips To Protect You Against Computer Viruses

  • Use a standard user account
  • Use the Highest User Account Control Setting (UAC)
  • Use an Antivirus with Web Security
  • Enable automatic update Java
  • Keep your Windows Up to Date
  • Use a Windows EMET (Enhance Mitigation Experience Toolkit)

Use a standard user account

Now the first thing is to make sure that the user account you use every day is a regular account rather than an admin account. These days the reason most computer viruses particularly once drive-by without any user interaction. To work properly it also needs you to be an admin.

And if you’re just a regular user and don’t have the rights of admin, which isn’t the big deal. Instead, it means the virus won’t be able to mount itself. Or if it is then it means the device files won’t be able to hide easily. So if you do have an antivirus program, removing any virus you get will be much easier.

So what you basically do is have a separate admin account that you create. And turn it into a default account. If you’ve ever had to do something involving admin rights, you’ll simply be required to type in the password. So, I definitely suggest doing this. And many people might say, “It’s all too painful. I don’t need it.” But that is very helpful. It’s because this will protect you especially against even computer viruses.

User Account Control Setting (UAC)

You should have the highest setting for User account access. That’s a little more distracting. Yet preventing computer viruses from doing anything and downloading themselves when you don’t know about it is definitely useful. Or whether you run a PDF, or something. And then all of a sudden you get a user control pop-up that someone is trying to change a file in the program. And this, you may deny.

Whereas if you don’t have it configured to do so, it might be trying to mount itself. And of that you won’t even ask. And that’s probably something you need to do a little bit more anxious. But certainly, if you want to be safe on your computer you need to do something.

Antivirus with Web Security

This one will become evident but explicitly antivirus one with Web security. And once again, the explanation for this is to restrict exposure to computer viruses. You weren’t sure there was. First of all, like ESET NOD32, that’s what I like about it, when you go to a website which may have a virus on it. When you click on it, it will absolutely stop you from going to a. So you do not need to think about that now.

So I certainly think getting an antivirus is good. “Yeah, it’s common sense,” most people say. Okay, you probably can’t afford it sometimes. You go and do some digging for something from Google. Then you go to a compromised Web address. You didn’t know you just click on Google put. You want to get some kind of antivirus to deal with such cases. You also indulge in some danger activity where you don’t know.

Java Security Settings

This is a that piece of software, really. What a lot of computers you will see. But there are several times new vulnerabilities that come out for invulnerability. And you want to make sure it is up-to-date really. What I’d do is make sure that you enable daily updated checks and also allow “notify me before installation.” And it installs and notifies you automatically before you update, not just before installing.

That way you can just click on it when the updates are ready, and confirm the installation. This won’t change as far as I know, automatically. Now the real reason that you want to check for updates daily is because of the exploits of zero-day.

Keep your Windows Up to Date

I think it’s pretty simple but I still need to add that makes automatic Windows updates. I think Windows 10 is something you need to allow. But just make sure you don’t put an offer too far into allowing security updates. Because the notifications are necessary to go through there. It will block exploits vulnerabilities that kind of thing. And it’s just important overall to keep windows up to date.

Windows EMET (Enhance Mitigation Experience Toolkit)

Now, I want to think about Windows EMET (Enhance Mitigation Experience Toolkit), a very cool application. Which the Microsoft is currently creating. What this does, in essence, is protection against exploits. Now, what happens when you download the software, all the programs you set there are a default list running and monitoring. I think that comes with a lot of such stuff as Acrobat, that kind of thing Microsoft Word.

And then it has all those various exploits and knows about it. If that program attempts to run a file containing one of those exploits, it will block it. Too many times you’re going to hear people say, “Do not open PDFs from unknown addresses.” Since you don’t think of it as a virus, but it does make a difference. That’s not a virus program necessarily. But they take advantage of legitimate regular software to install themselves as a virus. It is not anything like an exe or something. So I would definitely recommend it.
